2006 World Scholar-Athlete Games
The 4th World Scholar-Athlete Games (WSAG) were held on the campus of the University of Rhode Island on June 22-July 1, 2006. Finswimming events were included as part of the swimming competition. This was the third consecutive Games that finswimming was an official part of schedule. The finswimming events were contested on June 29-July 1. The events were contested at the Tootell Aquatic Center, which is a 25 yard short course pool
Finswimmers representing the United States, Lithuania, China, France, Great Britain, and the Netherlands Antilles competing in the 50 yard apnea, 50 yard surface, and 100 yard surface.
Lithuania's Kristine Kelly won gold medals in the three women's events, establishing new WSAG records in the 50 yard apnea (:20.28), 50 yard surface (:21.03), and 100 yard surface (:53.12). Kelly held all three previous records as a part of the United States finswimming team competing in the 2001 WSAG.
Kelly, who competes for the Finswimming Association of Southeast Texas (FAST) and holds dual USA/Lithuania citizenship, was joined at the Games by her FAST teammate Jenna Taylor, who represented the USA.
Taylor finshed second behind Kelly in all three events, posting times of :21.94 in the 50 yard apnea, :23.97 in the 50 yard surface, and :53.12 in the 100 yard surface.
Texas finswimmers hold four of six finswimming records at the World Scholar-Athlete Games.
Two time Texas Finswimmer of the Year Derrick Mauk (1998, 1999) was an all state diver for Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas.
